Once again a rookie decides a Stanley Cup Final Game. First it was Pittsburgh’s Conor Sheary, now it is San Jose Sharks forward Joonas Donski. The Sharks fans were sent into a frenzy by the overtime goal. San Jose was hosting their first ever Stanley Cup Final game and the SAP Center was abuzz.

Pittsburgh opened the scoring when defenseman Ben Lovejoy scored his second goal of the playoffs. The unassisted goal came 5:29 into the game, and the Penguins looked to be sending an early message to the Sharks. Five minutes later San Jose defenseman answered Lovejoy’s goal with his second of the playoffs.

Pittsburgh forward Patric Hornqvist fame the Penguins their second lead of the game when he scored his 8th goal of the playoffs. The Penguins looked to be on their way to going up 3-0 in the series until unsung hero Joel Ward blasted a slap shot past Penguins goalie Matt Murray. Ward’s goal came with just 8:48 left in the game. The remainder of the third period went without a goal.

The Sharks and Penguins went on to their second straight overtime. Pittsburgh had numerous scoring opportunities early in overtime, but failed to score. Then it happened San Jose rookie Joonas Donskoi skated the puck out from behind the net and went top shelf with an amazing wrist shot, beating Matt Murray. The Sharks were suddenly back in the series.

Game 4 will again be in San Jose, and will take place on Monday night at 7:00pm CST.
