Despite Ability to Clinch Series in Game 5 at Home, Penguins Playoff Tickets Are Cheapest on Secondary Market
The Pittsburgh Penguins took a 3-1 series lead against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in Game 4. With a chance to clinch the series at home in Game 5 Friday, the Penguins surprisingly still offer the lowest Round 2 average ticket price on the secondary market.
After a Game 4 win in New York, average price for Penguins tickets at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh is now $278.69, up just .95% from the average price of $276.06 before Game 4. The Penguins had a Round 1 average price of $201.82, marking a 36.8% jump in Round 2 price at home.
As Game 5 approaches, the Penguins are one of two teams that will see a lower cheapest secondary price than primary, as the Boston Bruins will also experience this trend. The Penguins’ cheapest face value ticket is currently $121.05 and cheapest secondary ticket is $100, which is 17.39% cheaper than the lowest primary ticket.
The Penguins will have the opportunity to clinch the series in Pittsburgh this Friday after cruising past the Rangers in Game 4 Wednesday night. Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh played poorly as he was instrumental in allowing two of the Penguins’ four goals, including a weak rebounded back-check from a hustling Brandon Sutter which served as the go-ahead for Pittsburgh late in the second period. The Rangers will have their backs to the walls as they travel to Pittsburgh tomorrow night.
The series will head back to the Garden if the Rangers are able to pull out a Game 5 win. However, average Rangers tickets on the secondary market have dropped after the Rangers loss last night. NHL playoff tickets for a possible Game 6 are currently priced at $395.60, down 12.62% from yesterday’s price of $452.76.
Pittsburgh has played exceptionally well on both the offensive and defensive end this series. Widely criticized goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has impressed, recording two shutouts and allowing five goals through four games. Despite consistency on both ends of the ice, the Penguins have faced an uninspired offense and easily penetrable defense in the Rangers. Rangers right winger Rick Nash has been a ghost all postseason, registering no goals and just four assists through 11 games.
Penguins fans have cheered their team into a comfortable series lead and will find great deals on the secondary market when searching for Game 5 seats. If the Penguins can carry their momentum into tomorrow night’s game, the Rangers may be hanging up their skates much earlier than anticipated.
