Kings forward Justin Williams scored the first playoff overtime goal of his NHL career to give the Kings a 3-2 win in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. He now has 1-3–4 in 30 career postseason overtime games. Williams, who also earned an assist on Drew Doughty’s second-period goal, posted his second consecutive and sixth overall multi-point game of the postseason. He recorded 1-1–2, including the primary assist on Alec Martinez’s overtime winner, in Game 7 of the Western Conference Final. He recorded 7-11–18 for the Carolina Hurricanes in their Stanley Cup-winning 2006 campaign. The Kings came back from a two-goal deficit to take Game 1. It marked the 14th multi-goal comeback victory of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, setting a single-year postseason record. This marks the second consecutive year a team has rallied from a two-goal deficit to win Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. In 2013, the Blackhawks overcame a 2-0 hole en route to a 3-2 victory against the Bruins (3OT). Prior to that, the last time a team rallied from a two-goal deficit in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final was in 2006, when the Hurricanes overcame a 3-0 hole to defeat the Oilers 5-4; Justin Williams also posted 1-1—2 in that contest (with CAR). The Kings recorded their fourth multi-goal comeback victory in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time any team posted as many such wins in one playoff year was in 1987, when the Flyers earned five such victories.
