Just when the hockey world thought that the glory days in Chicago had come to an end, they knock off the hottest team in the playoffs. In what many thought would be a tight checking, defensive battle the Chicago Blackhawks blasted 5 goals, in rout to a 5-3 Game 7 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Chicago captain Jonathan Toews started the scoring early in the first on a beauty goal with assists from Niklas Hjalmarsson and Patrick Kane. Just nine minutes later the superstar Toews added a second goal with assists on this one from veteran Brad Richards and Duncan Keith. The Blackhawks held a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

The second period of play started much like the first period. The Blackhawks scored their third straight when Brandon Saad scored his sixth playoff goal with assists from Patrick Kane and Johnny Oduya. Veteran Marian Hossa made the score 4-0 on a very controversial goal, in which many believed that he kicked the puck into the net. Anaheim’s Ryan Kessler got the Ducks on the board when he scored a goal at the 18:51 mark of the second period. The Blackhawks went into the third period with a convincing 4-1 edge.

Anaheim’s Corey Perry made the score 4-2 midway through the third period when he scored his 10th of the playoffs with assists from Patrick Maroon and Ryan Getzlaf. The comeback was short-lived when just a 1:13 later Anaheim’s Cam Fowler took a hooking penalty. This penalty nullified any comeback as the Blackhawks took little time capitalizing on it when Brent Seabrook scored on a screened blast from the point. Anaheim did score a power-play goal with under a minute to play by Matt Beleskey to make the final score 5-3.
