Calgary can now boast that they just may have the most powerful blue line in the National Hockey League. A message was sent from Calgary when on day two of the draft they acquired New York Islanders Travis Hamonic. The Flames also received a 4th round pick in 2019, or 2020 NHL Draft. The Flames sent a 1st-round pick in 2018, 2nd-round pick in 2018 and 2nd-round pick in 2019 or 2020. They hope that these picks will help boost the sales of 2018-19 nhl tickets. What the Flames truly received was a key right handed defenseman that will solidify the Flames blue line for years. The Flames now have two excellent pairings. Dougie Hamilton and TJ Brodie, and Mark Giordano and now Hamonic. Pretty impressive…
“We’ve got two pairs now,” Treliving said during Day 2 of the NHL Draft in Chicago. “On the road, where you’re not in control of matchups, we can put two pairs out there who can play against anybody. We’ve got to be able to match up against Edmonton, they’ve goa a heck of a team, but there a lot of good teams in the West.”

Hamonic was also very pleased to be on his way to Calgary. The Winnipeg native told Pat Steinberg of the Fan960 that he could not be happier to be a Flame, and looked forward to key player on the ice, and a positive addition to the city of Calgary.
There were a few attributes that made Hamonic so desirable to the Flames. He is a solid defenseman to start, and he is right-handed. He also wants to play in Calgary, and that is very important to Calgary management. The biggest positive is the cap hit. Hamonic has three years on a contract that pays him $3.8 per season. Very respectable for such a solid defenseman.
