The Calgary Flames young forward Sam Bennett had what many described as a frustrating and disappointing regular season. With only 13 goals and 13 assists many in Calgary were wondering what was wrong with the young star. Many thought this would be a breakout season for the young prospect. The 20-year-old was drafted fourth overall by the Flames in 2014. Expectation are high for Bennett.
Hockey insider Elliotte Friedman sparked up the conversations on Bennett earlier this week when he brought up that the Anaheim Ducks have interest in the young Flames forward. Friedman stated on Calgary Radio, FAN960 “I’ve heard that the Ducks like Sam Bennett. I’ve heard there’s people in that organization who like him. So, I could see the possibility of something being there.” He went on to say, “But I think a lot of teams are interested. (in a Anaheim defenseman) and I think Calgary would be interested. You know Brad Treliving is looking for another Top 4 defensemen and those guys would certainly qualify.”
Would the Flames trade Bennett to the Ducks for a defenseman, or would the Flames have to give up more than Bennett. I just question if the Ducks would trade a key defenseman to a division rival, and would the Flames do the same?
Well, Flames President of Hockey Operations, Brian Burke may have just squashed the idea of this happening on TSN Radio show “Off the cuff with Chris Nilan.” Burke stated that he felt the Flames have the strongest top-5 prospects in the league….
Calgary Flames
Johnny Gaudreau – Sean Monohan – Matthew Tkachuk – Sam Bennett – Dougie Hamilton
With Bennett being part of this list, I highly doubt that the Flames would deal him without extreme compensation.
So is Burke crazy do the Flames have the best prospects in the league – well here is some other teams top-5 prospects — you be the judge!
Edmonton Oilers
Connor McDavid – Leon Draisaitl – Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – Oscar Klefbom – Adam Larsson
Toronto Maple Leafs
Auston Matthews – Mitch Marner – William Nylander – Morgan Rielly – Nazem Kadri
Winnipeg Jets
Nikolaj Ehlers – Patrik Laine – Mark Scheifele – Jacob Trouba – Josh Morrissey
