Calgary can now boast that they just may have the most powerful blue line in the National Hockey League. A message was sent from Calgary when on day two of the draft they acquired New York Islanders Travis Hamonic. The Flames also received a 4^th round pick in 2019, or 2020 NHL Draft. The Flames sent a 1st-round pick in 2018, 2nd-round pick in 2018 and 2nd-round pick in 2019 or 2020. They hope that these picks will help boost the sales of 2018-19 nhl tickets. What the Flames truly received was a key right handed defenseman that will solidify the Flames blue line for years. The Flames now have two excellent pairings. Dougie Hamilton and TJ Brodie, and Mark Giordano and now Hamonic. Pretty impressive…

“We’ve got two pairs now,” Treliving said during Day 2 of the NHL Draft in Chicago. “On the road, where you’re not in control of matchups, we can put two pairs out there who can play against anybody. We’ve got to be able to match up against Edmonton, they’ve goa a heck of a team, but there a lot of good teams in the West.”

Hamonic was also very pleased to be on his way to Calgary. The Winnipeg native told Pat Steinberg of the Fan960 that he could not be happier to be a Flame, and looked forward to key player on the ice, and a positive addition to the city of Calgary.

There were a few attributes that made Hamonic so desirable to the Flames. He is a solid defenseman to start, and he is right-handed. He also wants to play in Calgary, and that is very important to Calgary management. The biggest positive is the cap hit. Hamonic has three years on a contract that pays him $3.8 per season. Very respectable for such a solid defenseman.

* Arizona traded its 2nd-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (35th overall) to Philadelphia for Philadelphia’s 2nd-round pick in 2017 (44th overall), Philadelphia’s 3rd-round pick in 2017 (75th overall) and NY Islanders’ 4th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 108th overall).

* Arizona traded Calgary’s 3rd-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 78th overall) to Edmonton for St. Louis’ 3rd-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 82nd overall) and Vancouver’s 5th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 126th overall).

* Columbus traded RW Keegan Kolesar to Vegas for Tampa Bay’s 2nd-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 45th overall).

* Los Angeles traded its 6th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (165th overall) to NY Islanders for NY Islanders’ 6th-round pick in 2018.

* New Jersey traded Nashville’s 6th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 185th overall) to San Jose for San Jose’s 7th-round pick in 2017 (205th overall) and Ottawa’s 7th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 214th overall).

* NY Islanders traded D Travis Hamonic and its 4th-round pick in the 2019 or 2020 NHL Draft to Calgary for Calgary’s 1st-round pick in 2018, 2nd-round pick in 2018 and 2nd-round pick in 2019 or 2020.

* NY Rangers traded Florida’s 4th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (previously acquired, 102nd overall) to San Jose for Nashville’s 4th-round pick in 2017 (previously acquired, 123rd overall) and San Jose’s 6th-round pick in 2017 (174th overall).

* Philadelphia traded its 7th-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft (199th overall) to Montreal for Montreal’s 7th-round pick in 2018.
