Friday night features six games in the NHL.  The red hot Devils host the Sharks and the Canadiens continue there west coast struggles in Anaheim.  The real points will shine in Buffalo as Evander Kane and the Sabres host the struggling Canucks.

Hockey World Mourns the Death of Gord Downie

Canadian musician Gord Downie died after fighting a courageous battle with brain cancer died Tuesday night.  The Tragically Hip front man loved and celebrate the sport of hockey like no other.  His passing resulted in numerous tributes, and condolences from the hockey world.  He will be greatly missed by many.  Watch as the Air Canada Centre and the Toronto Maple Leafs honored the Canadian icon.

Vote – NHL Top Moments of All-Time

Adding another fan-driven element to its year-long Centennial celebration, the National Hockey League announced today the launch of the Greatest NHL® Moments Presented by Coors Light and Pepsi Zero Sugar. This bracket-style, interactive, digital and mobile program will give fans the opportunity to select the Greatest NHL Moment of all time. Choosing from 64 of the NHL’s most memorable events, milestones and achievements – spanning from the League’s inaugural season in 1917-18 to present day – fans will have a chance to define history and vote for their favorite moment during the six-week period from Oct. 18 – Nov. 28.

Starting today, fans can visit NHL.com/GreatestMoments to begin Round 1 voting, and join the conversation using the hashtag #NHLGreatestMoments. The 64 moments, as determined by a Blue Ribbon panel consisting of broadcasters from NHL national rightsholders NBC Sports Group, NHL Network, Sportsnet and TVA Sports, have been placed into a bracket-style format, and are divided into four regions: Hart Region, Norris Region, Calder Region and Vezina Region (see below for voting schedule). From the Toronto Arenas becoming the first NHL team to win the Stanley Cup® Championship on March 30, 1918, to the Pittsburgh Penguins becoming the first team since 1998 to repeat as Stanley Cup® Champions on June 11, 2017, the site includes video vignettes for each moment, bringing each of the 64 stories to life.

The selection process includes six rounds of voting, with the Greatest NHL® Moment announced during the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic™ on Saturday, Dec. 16, featuring the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa:

  • 18-24 –Round 1 voting
  • 25-31 – Round 2 voting
  • 1-7 – Round 3 voting
  • 8-14 – Round 4 voting
  • 15-21 – Semifinals voting
  • 22-28 – Final voting
  • 16 – Greatest NHL Moment announced at 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic™
