All-Star Jerseys Released for Tampa Bay

The National Hockey League (NHL®) and adidas today unveiled the new adidas ADIZERO Authentic jerseys and pants for the 2018 Honda NHL® All-Star Game, which will be hosted by the Tampa Bay Lightning at AMALIE Arena on Sunday, Jan. 28 (3:30 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, SN, TVAS).

Inspired by the state of Florida, the uniforms create a timeless aesthetic that simultaneously pays homage to the history of the league, while celebrating the city of Tampa Bay, the host city for the 2018 Honda NHL® All-Star Game. Utilizing the primary colors from the host team as a base, the uniforms are centered around the native color palette of black, royal blue, white, and grey, while a custom color treatment featuring the “energy” colors of UV yellow and solar red have been uniquely applied to evoke the warm, vibrant sunset tones and the energy of the Tampa Bay area.

Creating a more contemporary and sleek aesthetic through bold color blocking, the uniforms are highlighted by a silver metallic film with four die-cut stars, one for each division, that allows the body fabric to show through. Accenting the color palette and jerseys, a custom-designed number font was inspired by the suspension cables of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, a Tampa Bay landmark.

Additional design details include the name of each division (Atlantic, Central, Metropolitan, Pacific) in the back of the collar, along with the All-Star event patch on the right shoulder and corresponding full-color team patch for each player on the left shoulder. Additionally, the NHL Shield crest on the front of the chest has been developed with adizero lightweight materials and kiss-cut silver twill, making the crest more flexible and breathable for the athlete.

At the forefront of innovation, design and craftsmanship, the adidas adizero Authentic jersey takes the hockey jersey silhouette to the next level by redefining fit, feel and lightweight construction. With close to 6 million votes cast over the period from Nov. 28 to Dec. 31, 2017, the Chicago Blackhawks (1959-present) have been selected by fans as having the Greatest NHL® Uniform of all time.

A slight update to their previous look, the Chicago Black Hawks entered the 1959-60 season with a new logo and a patch moved up the sleeve to the shoulder of their jersey. The new logo, based heavily on the previous logo, still featured the profile of a Native American head, but with bolder lines, redesigned feathers and a thick beige outline around the entire logo.

Chicago enjoyed success quickly with the new look, winning its first Stanley Cup® Championship in nearly 25 years in 1961. Although the overall design remained the same, the uniform was slightly modified during this span, with minor changes to the logo and collar. The Chicago Blackhawks® also changed their name while wearing this uniform, removing the space between ‘Black’ and ‘Hawks’ in 1986.

“If you line up NHL jerseys, the Blackhawks stand out. I don’t know why, the color maybe? The big Native American head? It’s clear, it’s precise, it’s not helter-skelter. Maybe that’s what I like, the clarity of it. The red (home) jersey is so bright, and I think that’s what makes it stand out,” said Blackhawks great Tony Esposito, who wore the uniform for 873 regular-season and 99 Stanley Cup Playoff games between 1969-84, en route to his 1988 Hockey Hall of Fame induction.

“I think everyone always has viewed the logo as a classic logo that’s timeless, almost, and obviously that has a lot to do with the history and tradition of an Original Six franchise,” said Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. “It’s special for me to play in a city like Chicago, where there’s that history of great players and teams that have won Stanley Cups and then you add the fact that they have that traditional look on the ice and you kind of get that excitement every time you wear the jersey.”

Big night in the NHL. Twelve games highlight the schedule. It is a little difficult to determine the top producing teams with a large schedule. I like San Jose in Toronto tonight, and the Lightning in Montreal. The Islanders and Flyers tend to put up points and Colorado has been on a roll as of late. Please note that the Florida versus Boston has been postponed due to weather.

Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask, New York Islanders right wing Josh Bailey and Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Nikita Kucherov have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the month of December.

FIRST STAR – TUUKKA RASK, G, BOSTON BRUINS

Rask stopped 277 of the 290 shots he faced, going 9-0-1 with a 1.22 goals-against average, .955 save percentage and two shutouts to guide the Bruins (21-10-6, 48 points) to a 10-2-2 December and second place in the Atlantic Division. He yielded two or fewer goals in 10 of his 11 appearances, with the lone exception a 3-2 overtime loss Dec. 16 vs. NYR. Rask opened and closed the month with shutout performances, making 28 saves Dec. 2 at PHI and 25 stops Dec. 30 at OTT. In doing so, he became the second goaltender in Bruinshistory to earn 40 shutouts, behind Tiny Thompson’s 74. The 30-year-old Savonlinna, Finland, native owns a 13-8-3 record through 25 games this season, ranking fourth in the NHL in goals-against average (2.13) and ninth in save percentage (.923).

SECOND STAR – JOSH BAILEY, RW, NEW YORK ISLANDERS

Bailey led the League with 7-15—22 to help the Islanders (20-15-4, 44 points) collect points in seven of their 15 December contests (5-8-2). He registered at least one point in 13 of his 15 appearances, including a career-high 11 straight to close the month (7-12—19). Bailey also recorded seven multi-point performances, highlighted by his first career hat trick Dec. 14 at CBJ. The 28-year-old Bowmanville, Ont., native shares first place in the NHL with 38 assists and ranks second overall with 50 points through 39 outings in 2017-18 (12-38—50). The 10-year veteran already is approaching his career high in points, established in 82 games last season (13-43—56).

THIRD STAR – NIKITA KUCHEROV, RW, TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING

Kucherov posted an NHL-best 1.54 points per game, totaling 8-12—20 in 13 outings to power the League-leading Lightning (28-8-2, 58 points) to an 11-2-0 month. He found the scoresheet in all but one of his 13 December appearances, closing the month on a 10-game run (6-10—16). The 24-year-old Maykop, Russia, native paces the NHL with 25 goals and 56 points in 2017-18, collecting at least one point in 32 of his 38 contests. He reached the 50-point milestone in his 34th outing of the season (Dec. 21 vs. OTT), requiring the second-fewest games in franchise history (behind Vincent Lecavalier: 33 GP in 2007-08).
