PACIFIC DIVISION WINS NHL ALL-STAR GAME UNDER INAUGURAL 3-ON-3 FORMAT
Jonathan Quick and John Gibson combined for a 17-save shutout and Corey Perry tallied the only goal of the game as the Pacific Division edged the Atlantic Division 1-0 in the Final of the 3-on-3 competition at the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game. The Pacific Division had advanced to the Final by defeating the Central Division 9-6 in the Semifinals behind a pair of goals each from Taylor Hall, Daniel Sedin and John Scott.
The new format divided the All-Star Game into three 20-minute games, with players from each Division making up the four All-Star teams: Pacific, Central, Atlantic, and Metropolitan.
As tournament champions the Pacific Division players claim the winner-take-all $1 million prize.
JOHN SCOTT VOTED HONDA NHL ALL-STAR GAME MVP
Pacific Division captain John Scott captured 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game MVP honors and will take home a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring. Scott tallied a pair of goals and recorded a +2 rating and three shots in the Pacific Division’s 9-6 win over the Central Division in the Semifinal and notched a pair of shots in the 1-0 win over the Atlantic in the Final.
OFFENSE FROM THE BACK END
* Defensemen scored seven of the 23 total goals. The Atlantic Division got three goals from the blueline in their 4-3 Semifinal win over the Metropolitan (Aaron Ekblad, Erik Karlsson, P.K. Subban) while the Central got two (Dustin Byfuglien, Roman Josi) and the Metropolitan (Kris Letang) and Pacific (Drew Doughty) got one each.
* Goaltenders from each of the four All-Star Teams recorded an assist. Reaching the scoresheet were Ben Bishop (Atlantic Division) and Cory Schneider (Metropolitan Division) in the first Semifinal, followed by John Gibson (Pacific Division) and Devan Dubnyk (Central Division) in the second Semifinal.
