The Panthers stopped the game and awarded Jagr with a gold stick. This is an amazing milestone and one that Jagr was very humble about. Jagr now only trails one man. The “Great One” Wayne Gretzky who had 2,857 NHL Points. Jagr was very please with the milestone, but was also very honest when asked about catching Gretzky. “For me, it’s like No. 1,” Jagr told The Associated Press recently. “I don’t really count Wayne Gretzky. He was from another planet. I don’t think he was from this planet. Whatever he did, it’s unbreakable.”

* Flyers are Comback Kids

The Flyers scored two tying goals in the second period – including one by captain Claude Giroux with 20.7 seconds on the clock – en route to a shootout win against the Capitals, their 11th win in the past 13 games (11-1-1). At 20-11-4 (44 points), the Flyers are among a group of five teams separated by five points for the top five spots in the Metropolitan Division. That group also ranks among the top six in the Eastern Conference and top eight in the entire NHL. Elias notes that Philadelphia has overcome a deficit of at least one goal in 14 of their 20 victories this season. Philadelphia improved to 7-0-1 in their past eight games at Wells Fargo Center. Steve Mason (36 saves) owns a 6-0-1 mark in his past seven outings on home ice and a 9-1-1 record in his past 11 games overall (2.12 GAA, .932 SV%).

* Oilers Rack-up Third Straight Win

The Oilers opened a 3-0 lead early in the second period to win their third straight game overall and defeat the Coyotes in regulation for the first time since Jan. 25, 2011, halting Arizona’s point streak in the head-to-head series at 25 games (21-0-4). With Edmonton’s regulation win, the longest active head-to-head point streak in the NHL is now the Bruins’ 16-game run against the Oilers (13-0-3 dating to Nov. 6, 2001). The two teams face off twice this season: Jan. 5 at BOS and March 16 at EDM. Mark Letestu (1-2—3) posted his second three-point performance in 11 games this month (also Dec. 1 at WPG: 2-1—3) after compiling two such outings in his first 421 career NHL games.
