After the Los Angeles Kings won a classic game in double-overtime, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that Kings forward Justin Williams won the Conn Smythe Trophy. The Conn Smythe is awarded to the most valuable player to his team in the playoffs. The winner is selected by a panel made up of members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

Williams led all scorers in the Stanley Cup Finals. He had a total of two goals, five assists for seven points. He had points in four of the five games in the Finals. His goals in the Finals were clutch. He had the overtime winner in Game 1, and three assists in Game 2.

The Kings relied heavily on Justin Williams throughout the whole playoffs, and he delivered. Williams scored nine goals, and had sixteen assists. His 25 points in 26 games was amazing. He led all players in multi-point games with seven, and had a very impressive plus-minus of +13. He set career highs for goals, assists, and points in a single playoff year.

A very humble Williams stated, “I can’t believe I won that (Conn Smythe), I don’t think, ever, ever sink in.”

Williams is an elite player in the NHL, and is very reserved about his career or Stanley Cup Finals accomplishments. “I don’t do anything flashy out there,” Williams said. “I’m not the fastest skater. I don’t have the greatest shot. I just try and do the best I can out there with what I have. I feel my smarts and my instincts have gotten me where I am, and my competitiveness.”
