The National Hockey League has always been known for its exciting overtime finishes in the playoffs. Well this year is defiantly not disappointing its fans. The Stanley Cup Playoffs have been filled with overtime games.

The Stanley Cup Finals between the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings have started with two consecutive overtime finishes. It sure makes for some late nights and nail biting moments. You love these games as a non-biased hockey fan, but these games are unbearable for diehard fans of the teams involved. Here is a list of some interesting NHL overtime facts from these years Stanley Cup Playoffs.

 

* Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final have required overtime for an unprecedented third consecutive year (2012: LA-NJ, 2013: CHI-BOS). Prior to 2012, it had been 61 years since the opening two contests of a Stanley Cup Final went to extra time.

 

* Game 2 marked just the eighth win by a home team in the last 28 overtime games in the Stanley Cup Final (dating to 1990).

 

* There now have been 25 total overtime games in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs (out of 90 contests, 27.8%). Home teams recorded their 11th victory in those games (11-14, .440).

 

* The 25 overtime games in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs is three short of the record 28 set in 1993. The only other years with more than 25: 2013 (27) and 2001 (26).

 

* The Kings improved to 4-2 in overtime games this postseason. The Rangers fell to 2-3.

* The Kings played their fourth overtime game in their past five outings, while the Rangers went to extra time for the fourth time in their last six games.

 

* This is the second consecutive season that a game in the Stanley Cup Final featured multiple overtimes. In 2013, Chicago defeated Boston 4-3 in triple-overtime of Game 1.

 

* At 90:26, Game 2 was the second-longest game in Kings history. It fell 1:14 short of Game 5 of the 2013 Western Conference Final at Chicago (91:40).
