The Toronto Maple Leafs will be celebrating the teams Centennial Anniversary this season, and they will be doing it by featuring a new look jersey, and a new look team. The Maple Leafs will also be featuring the #1 overall draft pick this season Auston Matthews. Matthews was the first Leafs player to wear the new look jersey.

The new jersey design is not a drastic change from the previous jersey. There are slight differences to the jersey, but the jersey maintains the teams tradition and classic look. The new design features a logo that looks very similar to the team’s logo in the 1960’s. The design features a Maple Leaf with 31 points. This signifies the season that the team moved into the Maple Leaf Garden (1931). The badge contains 17 veins with signifies the teams inaugural season of 1917. Maintaining and celebrating the teams history was very important to the organization. “Much like the new Toronto Maple Leaf logo that pays tribute to the club’s championship legacy but also represents the start of an exciting new chapter in team history, our new uniforms are meant to be classic and timeless,” said Brendan Shanahan, Toronto Maple Leafs President. “There is a simplicity in the design so that the focus is always solely on the crest. Conn Smythe discussed wearing the Maple Leaf badge with ‘honor, pride and courage’ and those words are now stitched into the collar of each sweater so that our players, and fans, are reminded of that every time they put it on.”

The new jerseys will be available at the Maple Leaf store on September 1st. Preorders will start on August 1st.
